Chicagoan Tara Swords says her company, which launches this week, is the first subscription-based fragrance delivery service. For $18 a month, subscribers receive a wrapped box containing sample bottles of three “niche” fragrances developed by independent artists around the world. Ms. Swords says the perfumes sold at department stores and boutiques are “only a tiny subset of what's out there.”
This month's Olfactif box includes The Soft Lawn by Josh Meyer of Portland, Ore.; Fig Tree by Sonoma Scent Studio in Napa Valley, Calif.; and Voleur de Roses by Michel Almairac of Paris. “We're trying to introduce people to a different way to think about fragrance — it's a work of art,” Ms. Swords says. An Olfactif subscription is free for the first month. Subscribers can get back their $18 fee for a month's package if they purchase a full bottle of a featured fragrance.
A very good idea! This is one awesome club, I would joint, unlimited scents and choices. I think this idea is here to stay, it has worked for a number of industries. You will get the latest and the brightest without having to go to the department store.
