Police blotter: Mundelein man charged with theft of perfume in Vernon Hills

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

RETAIL THEFT

Timothy Schneider, 45, 19314 W. Fairview Drive, Mundelein, was arrested and later charged with retail theft when he left Sears, at 2 Hawthorn Center, without paying for $104.50 worth of perfume on Thursday, Dec. 26. He is due in court on Jan. 15.

High-flying perfume thieves land in prison

Two Polish shoplifters who repeatedly flew into British airports purely to steal duty free perfumes have been jailed.

Pawel Lenard, 35, and Magdalena Rezler, 34, used cheap Ryanair flights to visit Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow before returning to Poland.

The pair, along with suitcases brought only to stash stolen goods, visited the World Duty Free store at Bristol Airport while waiting for connecting flights. CCTV caught married father Lenard and mother Rezler, pulling dozens of boxes of luxury perfumes such as Chanel into baskets. They then walked to the store's confectionery area and transferred the boxes, worth £4,588.60 in total, into their luggage.

Bristol Crown Court heard that on the second occasion, police – acting on a tip-off from a passenger – arrested the pair as they waited to board their next flight.

Officers discovered 40 boxes of perfume, worth £2,638.40, in their suitcases. Both later admitted two counts of theft.

Recorder David Evans told the pair, from the Polish town of Krzyz Wielkopolski, he wished to ban them from Britain but could not.

The judge sentenced both to two months in prison but acknowledged they had already spent a month in custody after being arrested – and would probably be released instantly.

The court was told Lenard and Rezler booked cheap flights from Poland to British airports in July, August, September, October and December of last year. The pair flew between Poland, Bristol and either Glasgow or Edinburgh before returning to Poland. Police said it had been an audacious shoplifting attempt.

Man Arrested in Perfume Heist

A New York man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of cologne and perfume is in police custody in Glastonbury.

Police said Stevens Tadros, 32, of Howard Beach, New York, is part of a team of “boosters” who are suspected of stealing perfume and cologne from several Walgreens stores in the tri-state area.

“Boosters” are on the low end of professional shoplifters, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and higher level “fencers” coordinate booster thefts.

These organized retail theft rings use sophisticated methods to shoplift, including counterfeit receipts and UPC codes to get refunds, according to the FBI, and are known to travel from state to state or city to city.

Tadros is accused of being involved in a perfume heist at a Walgreens in Glastonbury in April 2013 in which $2,195.60 worth of perfume was stolen.

New York Police took Tadros into custody there in mid-December and Glastonbury police went to New York to get him.

He was charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree.
He was unable to post $100,000 bond and is due in court today.

Police: 18 Bottles of Perfume Stolen at Victoria's Secret

- On Jan. 5 at 4:29 p.m., an individual from Bayville was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Macy's in the Broadway Mall.

- On Jan. 5 between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., unknown subject(s) removed 18 bottles of perfume from Victoria's Secret, located at 358 Broadway Mall.

- On Jan. 5 at 7:55 p.m., a Hempstead woman was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart in Westbury.

- On Jan. 6 at 5:45 p.m., a Lawrence man was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart in Westbury.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Woman Steals Perfume From Ulta

ODESSA - It's a classic holiday shoplifting case; a woman in Odessa walked into a cosmetics store and took off with nearly $200 worth of stuff without paying. The woman is believed to be a repeat offender.

"The young lady we're looking at has been in this business several times," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said.

On December 15, 2013, the woman went into Ulta. The surveillance video shows her "shopping."

"You can actually see her walking around the store, looking at the things she wants," Rogers said.

The woman went over to the perfume gift sets. She picked one up and stored it on an end cap. Then she scoped the place out. "You can see her casing the store, looking for other people in there," Rogers said.

In clear view of the surveillance camera, the woman stuffs the gifts up her shirt.

"When she sees the opportunity, she sticks everything in that jacket and takes off," she said.

The woman took a Michael Kors perfume gift set and a Polo gift set which totaled to about $200.

"This one incident in a Class B (Misdemeanor). Now, if we can tie her to other incidents, they're going to aggregate that to a different class," Rogers said.

Rogers told NewsWest 9, the employees also caught a glimpse of the getaway car.

"Red Taurus, about a '96-'97 model with handicap plates. It's a four door. She did get in that vehicle with a man driving it," she said.

She's described as a white woman in her 30's with a chest tattoo.

2 women suspected in perfume theft

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Florence Police hope you can identify a pair of theft suspects.

Investigators said two women caught on security camera footage are suspects in a felony theft from Dec. 23.

The two are accused of stealing over $1,500 worth of perfume.

Perfume plunderer remains on the loose

COEUR d'ALENE - Something didn't smell right to a Macy's loss prevention manager when she saw a customer select three perfume box sets at the store on Christmas Eve.

Following her nose, the manager watched as the customer took the three sets of fragrances into a dressing room. When the customer exited the room, she was carrying a large shopping bag and the merchandise was not visible.

That was when it dawned on her that the customer was not a customer at all, but a shoplifter who had stolen store merchandise on two prior occasions.

Unable to intercept the suspect, the manager contacted the Coeur d'Alene Police, and according to an incident report, she told the officer that on Dec. 2 and Dec. 20 the same woman had stolen more than $3,000 worth of merchandise.

The three boxes of perfume were valued at $353 and according to the incident report, the shoplifter is a 5-foot-5 female with shoulder-length black hair.

Anglesey smash-and-grab perfume thieves hunted

Police have appealed for help after thieves smashed their way into an Anglesey pharmacy shop and stole perfume.

The incident happened between 03:00 and 03:30 GMT on Tuesday at the Rowland's Pharmacy on Ffordd Caergybi in Llanfairpwll.

Two people were seen fleeing the area and police are also keen to trace a vehicle seen acting suspiciously.

North Wales Police said one of the suspects was wearing a black balaclava.

Inspector Kev Bratherton said: "From enquiries made so far two people were seen running from the area towards Ffordd Penmynydd.

"Over the last 12 months we have seen a steady decrease in crime on the island and with the continued support and vigilance from the local community I'm sure we can identify those responsible."

One of the men seen in the area is described as wearing a black balaclava, black body-warmer jacket with a grey hood and sleeves, white trainers and turquoise gloves.

The second individual was wearing a blue top with a yellow collar or hood, black hat and dark pants.

Police say the car they are interested in tracing is a silver Vauxhall Astra SXi, seen in the Lon Dyfnia area of Llanfairpwll at about 09:30 GMT on Tuesday.

North Wales Police said anyone who has any information should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Thieves Steal Thousands in Perfume from Victoria's Secret

Thieves have been targeting Victoria's Secret at the Quaker Bridge Mall, recently, with nearly $4,000 of the store's perfume inventory reported stolen in three separate incidents recently.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 14, a manager at Victoria's Secret reported that she noticed an entire display of "Tease" perfume was missing, but hadn't been sold. An investigation revealed a black female, 18-20 years old had put the bottles into a bag while a black male, 6 feet tall with a thin build, blue jeans and a black jacket kept lookout. $948 worth of perfume was missing, in both 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz. bottles. 
• On Thursday, Jan. 16, Victoria's Secret reported that 30 bottles of "Bombshell" perfume were missing. An investigation showed that two men had entered the store, refused a salesperson's help and then one bent down at the perfume display. One of the men was described as a black male in his mid 20s, about 6 feet tall, thin build and wearing blue jeans, tan work boots, black baseball cap and a grey/blue flannel shirt. The other man was described as a black male in his mid 20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build and wearing grey jeans, a black coat and a tan baseball cap. The total value of the missing perfume is $,1720.
• Also on Thursday, Victoria's Secret reported the theft of "Bombshell," "Rapture" and "Night" perfume, which was discovered missing as employees closed for the evening. An investigation revealed a male and a female at the perfume display and the woman putting the perfume bottles into a shopping bag and leaving the store without paying. The woman is described as black, in her early to mid 40s, with black hair in a bun and wearing a brown shawl, blue jeans and UGG boots. The man was described as black, also in his early to mid 40s, 180 lbs, wearing blue jeans, a black coat, hiking boots and a gray fedora. The total value of the missing perfume was $1,118.

Somerville police: Perfume thief arrested at Marshall's

Somerville —

Police arrested a Cambridge woman Dec. 2 after she reportedly tried stealing sneakers and perfume from Marshall’s on McGrath Highway. Crystal Bielakowski, 30, 240 Albany St., Cambridge, was arrested on McGrath Highway on a charge of shoplifting by asportation.

Responding to Marshall’s Department Store on McGrath Highway for a reported shoplifter at 11:35 a.m., police met the loss prevention officer, who said he was watching the store surveillance system when he saw Bielakowski near the bathroom looking around suspiciously while talking to another woman.

Bielakowski reportedly removed a price tag and the sensor from a pair of black Puma sneakers, placed them in her purse and moved to a different spot in the store. She reportedly removed a Nine West Love Fury item, Dolce Gabana perfume and Ed Hardy perfume from their boxes and put them in her purse, then walked to the register and paid only for a makeup kit.

The loss prevention officer reportedly followed Bielakowski, stopped her right at the exit door, and brought her into the loss prevention office, where he recovered the stolen items and called police. Bielakowski had also been arrested at a Marshall’s in Boston for larceny.

Woman admits perfume theft

A Warwick woman admitted attempting to steal two bottles of perfume from Brown & Co when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

Desire Scraders, 49, was released on $500 bail and will reappear for mention tomorrow to determine if a psychological evaluation and social inquiry report should be made before sentencing.

Crown counsel Loxly Ricketts told the court that Scraders was seen shopping in the store around 12.35pm on October 9.

Management watched the woman and approached her to investigate.

The retail manager was able to see two boxes of perfume hidden in Scraders’ purse, at which point the operations manager asked her to follow him to the upstairs office, said Ms Ricketts.

As she followed the managers, they observed Scraders take the perfume boxes out of her purse and try to place them on a glass shelf.

When security picked up the perfume boxes, Scraders then attempted to leave the store via the rear entrance.

After initially resisting, management and security were able to detain Scraders until police arrived

Coldwater Police say 'perfume incidents' are a hoax

Thursday, December 5 2013, 07:36 PM EST COLDWATER, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The newsroom was flooded with calls Thursday, from people worried about so-called 'perfume incidents' in Coldwater.

The talk around town is that theives are knocking people out with the smell of perfume, and then stealing their stuff. We did some digging and from what we've been told, it turns out it's all a hoax. Coldwater police told Newschannel 3 they had two reports Wednesday of 'pushy' perfume sellers.

One at the WalMart Supercenter, and the other at PS Food Mart, both on East Chicago Street. No one was injured and there are no suspects.

West Palm woman charged with stealing perfume, light bulb from Lake Park Walmart

A trip to Walmart landed a 24-year-old West Palm Beach woman in jail this week after authorities alleged that she stole $50.98 worth of perfume and light bulbs and later used a fake name to identify herself.

Tiffany Webb was arrested Tuesday on charges of retail theft and giving a false name to a law-enforcement officer. She was released Wednesday from the Palm Beach County Jail under court-ordered supervision.

Webb was shopping in the Walmart on Congress Avenue between Northlake and Blue Heron boulevards onTuesday evening when a store loss-prevention officer saw with an empty purse in her shopping basket, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report said.

The store officer alleged that Webb selected two perfume gift boxes, walked over the home goods department and selected drapes to put over her purse. Webb allegedly then picked up a pair of light bulbs and hid them in her purse.

She also put the perfume in the purse and then met a friend who was making purchases in the garden department, the arrest report said.

She walked out of the store and past all points of purchase without trying to pay for the merchandise, the report said.

The store officer identified himself to Webb and then escorted her to the loss-prevention office.

A sheriff’s deputy who was working an off-duty detail responded to the office. Instead of using her real name, Webb identified herself by giving her friend’s name to the deputy, the report said.

The deputy later learned Webb’s real name and charged her for providing the false name.

French police on the scent of perfume thieves

Sniffing out thieves who hijacked a lorry transporting Rochas perfumes in the latest in a spate of robberies targeting upmarket French fragrances.

Posh beauty products valued at tens of thousands of euros are expected to resurface on the pre-Christmas black market following the hold-up on Wednesday evening outside a Rochas production centre in the west of Paris.

The driver, who was attacked with tear gas and a stun gun, was found tied up on the road at the scene, and the partially emptied lorry was discovered in a nearby forest.

Thieves recently carried out a similar operation against a lorry carrying Guerlain perfumes in the same area and in June 2012 more than two million euros ($2.7 million) worth of the company's upmarket products were stolen from its factory at Orphin, also in the western suburbs of Paris.

Northwest perfume shoplifter gets probation

A woman accused of participating in a grab-and-dash shoplifting of dozens of perfume bottles was sentenced to three years probation.

Reshava Young, 21, was one of three women accused of the thefts from a northwest side store in August.

Oro Valley Police described the theft as brazen, saying the women walked into the store, grabbed 40 bottles of perfume and walked out.

Police tracked down and arrested the women within 30 minutes of the crime.

Deputies searching for woman who stole 20 bottles of perfume from Wellington beauty store

 

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding a woman who stole 20 bottles of perfume from a local Ulta beauty store. The retail theft happened Dec. 1 around 1:50 p.m. at the Ulta store at 1020 State Road 7 in Wellington.

 

The woman was seen carrying a large, black bag which was filled with the 20 bottles of perfume. In total, the perfume is worth $1,428. The woman returned to the store Dec. 7 and store management called the sheriff’s office after recognizing her. The woman left the store.

Police Search for Suspected Perfume Pilferers

Joliet police are looking for two suspects who allegedly stole perfume from a Plainfield-areaWalgreens store.

Police shared images from surveillance footage that show the suspects, both female and Hispanic, entering the store, 4822 Caton Farm Rd.

According to police, the duo stole two bottles of perfume at around 4 p.m. Nov. 16. Police said the suspects were seen leaving the Walgreens parking lot in a black Ford Focus "with a license plate number similar to P985579."

According to a store employee, both suspects frequent the Walgreens, police said.

Florence Police On the Hunt For Perfume Thieves

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT / Shoals Area Crime Stoppers) – It`s one of those strange stories you don`t hear about every day.

On October 28th Florence Police said three people walked into the ULTA store on Cox Creek Parkway and stole 47 bottles of expensive perfumes from a display.

Detectives said the two females and male suspect, filled a large purse with the perfumes and high tailed out of the store.

According to investigators, the woman seen in the photo talking to a clerk has a tattoo on her right arm that someone might recognize.

Police are hoping the public might be able to sniff these people out and put them behind bars.

Brittany Nicole Smith: $1,500 in perfumes stolen at Ulta Cosmetics in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Police have arrested two people in connection with the theft of more than $1,500 in perfume and fragrances last month.

Investigators said the thefts occurred Oct. 10 at Ulta Cosmetics located on SW Village Parkway in Port St. Lucie.

Brittany Nicole Smith, 18, and a 16-year-old girl, both of Vero Beach, Fla., were arrested after tips identified the two suspects in surveillance video.

Through the course of the investigation, a third suspect has been identified and detectives are currently applying for arrest warrants for that individual.

Woman charged with stealing bottle of Nicki Minaj perfume

Artists and Celebrities want you to have their fragrance, but you must pay for the product, not get it in a way that will land you in trouble.

Police in Cumberland charge a woman on Halloween night with stealing a bottle of Nicki Minaj perfume.  The incident began at about 8:54 pm at Kohl’s in Silver Spring Township. Store Loss Prevention employees told police that the suspect who allegedly stole the perfume had fled in a white Toyota sedan.

The vehicle was quickly located and police identified the driver as Amy Auxt. She admitted to stealing the perfume but said that she threw it out the window as she was fleeing.

Auxt is charged with Retail Theft.
