CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Woman Steals Perfume From Ulta

ODESSA - It's a classic holiday shoplifting case; a woman in Odessa walked into a cosmetics store and took off with nearly $200 worth of stuff without paying. The woman is believed to be a repeat offender.

"The young lady we're looking at has been in this business several times," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said.
On December 15, 2013, the woman went into Ulta. The surveillance video shows her "shopping."
"You can actually see her walking around the store, looking at the things she wants," Rogers said.
The woman went over to the perfume gift sets. She picked one up and stored it on an end cap. Then she scoped the place out. "You can see her casing the store, looking for other people in there," Rogers said.
In clear view of the surveillance camera, the woman stuffs the gifts up her shirt.

"When she sees the opportunity, she sticks everything in that jacket and takes off," she said.
The woman took a Michael Kors perfume gift set and a Polo gift set which totaled to about $200.
"This one incident in a Class B (Misdemeanor). Now, if we can tie her to other incidents, they're going to aggregate that to a different class," Rogers said.
Rogers told NewsWest 9, the employees also caught a glimpse of the getaway car.
"Red Taurus, about a '96-'97 model with handicap plates. It's a four door. She did get in that vehicle with a man driving it," she said.
She's described as a white woman in her 30's with a chest tattoo.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at (432) 333-TIPS. If your tip leads to an arrest, you could receive a cash reward.

The Spice of Life: Layering fragrances and loving it

As a young lady, when I was feeling down or a little under the weather, my mother’s advice was simple: Get up and put on some lipstick. You’ll feel better.

This did actually work. Still does.

But I’ve found as I’ve matured that perfume may even work better. When I’m feeling stressed, tired or sad, just a couple of spritzes is all it takes, and I feel so much better. And if I spritz when I’m actually feeling well, then look out, world!

The new Aerin Fragrance Collection by Aerin Lauder makes me very happy. There are five scents — Gardenia Rattan, Amber Musk, Lilac Path, Ikat Jasmine and Evening Rose — and they really smell like their names.

The press materials say that the collection “is the most personal and intimate expression of Aerin’s life and memories. Whether evoking the feeling of sunshine on a long walk on the beach or the cozy peacefulness of a quiet retreat in the mountains, each fragrance tells its own story.”

Each fragrance comes in a box featuring an Aerin for Lee Jofa design. (Courtesy photo)

Aerin Lauder may not appreciate me muddling her memories, but what I like most about the fragrances is how they layer together. (Confession: I always layer and mix complementary fragrances because it creates a unique scent I won’t smell on anyone else. So if you ask me what scent I’m wearing and I only give you one name, I’m lying. This is either because I really can’t remember what combo I put on that morning, or because I don’t like you and I don’t want you to know my secrets. Smiley face.)

Why it's Best not to Wear Perfume Nor Take the Pill when Looking for a Mate

Fine perfume might be more intellectual and spiritual in nature than instinctual after all. A few years back - in 2008 - there were a series of articles on olfaction and attraction shedding light on enduring sexual attraction thanks to new research on the role of the contraceptive pill. It is required reading if you wish to grasp some of the potentially thwarted "chemistry" at work when choosing not only a compatible mate, but a long-term one...

The research resulted in the practical advice not to be on the contraceptive pill when dating - and even in order to perfect the approach, not to wear fragrances in the first few weeks of getting to know someone so as to be able to olfactorily ascertain the soundness of the basis for your sexual attraction. It has to do with MHC genes compatibility - they should be not too similar, but not too dissimilar as well. These are as unique as a finger prints so there are no obvious visual predictors such as the color of skin, or race. Only your nose will tell, provided no pill is involved and perfumes do not blur the olfactory message too much although a link has been found between perfume preferences and the Major histocompatibility complex. If you and someone else consistently show similar cologne preferences, this tends to mean you have similiar MHC genes, and so are not biologically compatible actually. They should stay great buddies of yours.

Jennifer Garner stopped wearing perfume while she was breastfeeding son Samuel, but now that he's weaned she's once again sporting her favorite scent - Gypsy Water from French brand Byredo Perfumes.

The actress, who stars in the buzzy new flick Dallas Buyers' Clubalongside Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, reveals that it's sometimes hard to reconcile her mom obligations and her love of products.

"I just weaned my baby a few months ago," the Juno star said of her son with husband Ben Affleck. (They also have two daughters, Violet and Serafina.) "It's always a happy thought when you realize 'I can wear perfume again!"

The super-feminine Gypsy Rose fragrance has notes of amber, bergamot, vanilla, sandalwood, and juniper berries. You can get a 50 mL bottle for $145. For non-perfume wearers, the luxe brand also carries a line of home fragrances.

Still, temporarily giving up perfume is a sacrifice Jen is more than happy to make. "There's nothing more emotional than seeing your partner – the man you love – with your baby at any time: the first time, the second, yesterday, today. There's nothing more beautiful."

Woman uses perfume to escape from accused attacker

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police say a woman who was attacked by a man with a box cutter on Tuesday in Davidson County was able to escape.

The victim says the suspect approached her using racial slurs and hit her with a stick.

Before she knew it, she says she was face-to-face with a box cutter, and the man was threatening to cut her.

The victim then pulled a perfume bottle from her purse and sprayed the man in the eyes.

The man, later identified as Billy McCormick, was found and arrested on an aggravated assault charge.

McCormick has an extensive criminal history dating back to the mid-1980s, including robberies and burglaries. Police say his assault convictions were for prior stabbings.

SLATE: Beyoncé’s New Fragrance Was Inspired by Maya Angelou and Smells Like Overcoming Adversity

Women’s Wear Daily reports this week that Beyoncé, not content to just drop a new album out of the sky and force everyone to Google “Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie,” will soon release a new fragrance inspired by a Maya Angelou poem. According to Marsha Brooks, vice president of global marketing for a firm that oversees Bey’s fragrance business, the perfume, called Rise, will give off a “strong sense of ‘overcoming adversity and rising above it all.’”

Based on the name of the scent, The Cut smartly guesses that Bey’s inspiration was Angelou’s “Still I Rise,” which does seem tailor-made for the star, especially the quatrain that goes:

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Beyoncé is actually not the first to tie her famous-person fragrance to a poet—Tilda Swinton released a scent in 2010 inspired by the Sufi poet Rumi and the scent of ginger. How long until other celebrities, eager to recreate Bey’s (and Tilda’s!) success, hop on the poet-perfume money-train? When they do, here are some suggestions:

Eau de Robert Frost: Smells like apples, woods on a snowy evening.

Eau de Emily Dickinson: Smells like clean Laundry and gunpowder.

Eau de e.e. cummings: Smells like mud-lusciousness, puddle-wonderfulness.

Eau de Wallace Stevens: Smells like the odorlessness that is not there, and the odorlessness that is.

Eau de Elizabeth Bishop: Smells like something—either codfish or knowledge—that makes one’s nose run and one’s eyes water.

Eau de William Butler Yeats: Smells like a spreading laurel tree, ale from the country of the young.

Eau de Philip Larkin: Smells like the beer bottle you knock over groping back to bed after a piss.

Eau de Sappho: Smells like disconnected notes of incense bright shaking leaves hoplites?

You get the idea. Which literary treasures will Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey grace with their brands? Our only advice is to stay away from the Beat poets, who probably don’t smell too good.

Christina Aguilera Looks Sexier Than Ever in Marilyn Monroe-Inspired Perfume Ad (PHOTO)

Christina Aguilera Tweets Sexy Perfume Ad on December 20, 2013

Back in October, The Voice coach Christina Aguilera flaunted her bodacious bod while filming an ad for her perfume, “Unforgettable." As she tweeted back then, “Feeling sexy & seductive on set with Mark Liddell filming.”

Just in time for Christmas, the sexy songstresstweeted another photo that depicts her spraying perfume on herself with the caption that simply read, “#Unforgettable.” The photo is dimly lit so it’s hard to see what she’s wearing, but it looks to be a super sultry black, low-cut dress and her hair seems to be an ode to Marilyn Monroe.

Although she has worn some demure styles onThe Voice this season, she’s also gone the sexy route, showing off her newly-svelte frame. Can you blame her? As the “Say Something” singertold Jay Leno in an interview on The Tonight Show a while back, “I’m 32 and feel sexier than ever!”

The vocal powerhouse recently celebrated abirthday, and let’s just say 33 is looking pretty good on her. Like many celebs, however, Christina has had to fight rumors that she got plastic surgery to lose the weight. Those on her inner circle insist she lost it the old-fashioned way — through diet changes and exercise. In fact, a friend told Life & Style recently about some of the ways Xtina stays slim.

“Christina takes her lunches and snacks with her to work now, so she can watch how much she eats instead of overindulging in anything bad for her,” the friend revealed via Hollywood Life. “She eats carbs, protein, snacks like pretzels — she just watches how much she eats.”

Smells like a perfume launch

LAHORE: It seems that launching fragrances has become the latest vogue. With many international fashion houses and celebrities jumping on the fragrance launch bandwagon, it was inevitable that the trend would transcend borders and permeate into the local fashion scene. And the first to catch the wave are designer brothers Nabeel and Aqeel Iftikhar. Going by the label Nabeel & Aqeel, the two have launched their signature perfume line for both him and her.

Although France is the hub of fragrance manufacturing,  and most designers and celebrities seeking to make perfumes go to perfumeries in the country for desired scents, the Iftikhar brothers took a different direction. In order to make affordable and quality products, the duo went to Spain to get their perfumes manufactured. “Our signature fragrances are inspired by glamorous, age-old perfumeries, where exquisite ingredients are used to create one-of-kind scents of sophistication and luxury,” says Nabeel.

Nabeel & Aqeel fragrances comprise five Eau de toilettes – four for men and one for women. “It took us six years to conceptualise this range and bring it to the market,” shares Nabeel. “The reason why we opted for Eau de toilette rather than Eau de parfum is that the latter are generally stronger and much more expensive; the former easily last for about four to six hours and are not very strong,” he further says. Nabeel & Aqeel acknowledges the personal significance of perfumes, and that the mark of a good perfume is how long it lasts.

The brothers explain how working with perfumes is a risky business: “There is a lot of financial investment required and we are talking big numbers,” says Nabeel.

Without revealing the name of the perfumery, Nabeel & Aqeel share with us that their product line is launched at an introductory price of Rs2,600 per bottle.
The collection features the following five perfumes:

1. Phantom: A strong, woody fragrance with notes of citrus that might not be everyone’s taste. Top notes of the perfume are orange, shiso, grapefruit and pepper, while heart notes include flint, mineral and geranium leaves. The base notes are those of oak, moss, vetiver, patchouli and benzoin.

Lanvin, ME, £49 : A little something for those who want to treat none other than themselves this Christmas - and why not? Star Fragrance Rundown: The Olsen Twins’ New Scents

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are adding a new feature to their growing lifestyle brand: fragrance.
The perfume duo, which the twins named Nirvana, will be associated with their Elizabeth and James line and sold exclusively at Sephora stores starting in January.

"We always knew we wanted to have a fragrance for this brand, because it's very lifestyle," Ashley told Women's Wear Daily. "We felt that between the brand Elizabeth and James and Sephora that we were really speaking together directly to our customer. We felt that was a really good place to start exploring the world of fragrance and beauty."

The twins chose Nirvana because, as Ashley explained to WWD, "to us, this was really about a moment—and what's that one word that's going to define that one moment where you feel comfortable, sexy and at ease with yourself?"

Nirvana Black features notes of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla, while Nirvana White is a mesh of peony, muguet, and musk.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana eaux de parfum will be available in three sizes: 50 ml. for $75, 30 ml. for $55 and $22 for a rollerball applicator.

Who: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, our fashion spirit animals and textured hair gurus.

What: Their first perfumes for Elizabeth and James, “Nirvana White” and “Nirvana Black.”

When: In late January, the scents will be released in Sephora stores in North America and on sephora.com, late January — in other words, too far from now.

Adorable detail: Mary Kate got to “play dog trainer” on the set of the perfume’s photo shoot (which features a naked model and a black dog).

Why we care: The Olsens have developed a serious reputation for quality in the fashion game, and there’s no reason to doubt that their new fragrances will be anything but carefully curated and super stylish. The fragrances took almost two years to develop; they convey, according to Mary Kate, a sense of intimacy, while Ashley says that they embody “that one moment where you feel comfortable, sexy and at ease with yourself.” Nirvana White features peony, muguet, and musk notes. Nirvana Black is violet, sandalwood, and vanilla. Yeah, we’ll do anything to be more like an Olsen.

Christina Aguilera Reveals Unforgettable Fragrance Ad And Full Commercial

Things that are unforgettable: your first kiss, your first concert, the first time you saw Harry Styles shirtless, your first job, your first love, the second time you saw Harry Styles shirtless, Christina Aguilera’s new perfume. (OK, so that last one was a smidge more literal than the rest.) Back in August, Xtina teased some “fragrance news” via Twitter with a mysterious photo that showed the bleach-blonde pop star shushing the camera in a sexy lace dress. And now we finally know alllll about it!

The singular shot is a still from her just-released commercial for Unforgettable, the singer’s fifth perfume -- and, according to Aguilera, "is for women who want to be irresistible, feel sexy & glamorous.” SIGN US UP! If a new perfume is all it takes to be all of those things, then we are SO in. Unforgettable starts with smells of cashmere, vanilla and tonka absolute at its base, adds night blooming jasmine and turkish rose at the "heart," and is finished with the scents of plum and pomegranate. So good, you could eat it. (But don't.)

The ads themselves are sultry and bare and basically personify our desire to be irresistible, sexy and glamorous. Nice work, Xtina. You got us. The commercial features a mystery man with a SERIOUS set of abs (perhaps its her beau, Matthew Rutler?), and Aguilera, who caresses the dude, laughs and looks longingly into the camera while holding a lace fan. Is it getting hot in here or is it just us? The bottle is tall, sleek and also covered in lace, which, when paired with bombshells such as ourselves, equals HAWT. Hehe. (We hope.)

Perfume at work: should you or shouldn't you?

Since I have a still-hush-hush fragrance-related venture up my sleeve scheduled to launch next year, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the topic of wearing perfume to work. I'm certainly not the only person who’s sat in a meeting and found an excuse to move seats because my neighbour’s fragrance was overwhelming me. (In the 80s, someone coined the term ‘room-rockers’ for these powerful creations.) Nevertheless, I absolutely defend the idea that it’s OK to wear fragrance in an office environment – it’s what you wear, and how much, that’s relevant.

In the States, however, there has actually been a legal move to outlaw perfume in the workplace – in the US Census Bureau, and government offices in the city of Detroit, it’s no longer allowed. Whether or not anyone in Detroit can afford fragrance now the city’s gone bankrupt is, of course, another matter. Some private employers in Canada and the US have followed suit: yet again, something ‘everyday’ has been elevated to a 'Elf & Safety issue.

But there’s ‘work-appropriate’ fragrance, and the stuff we wear for playtime/ seduction – and (leaving aside the thorny topic of office romances) the two aren’t the same. So having devoted a blog of mine last week to the gritty subject of women and war, I thought I’d redress the balance with a perhaps fluffier run-down of the fragrances I consider most suitable for the workplace. (I’m all about the yin and yang.) Here goes.

Signature Scents I've Loved Throughout My Life

by Marissa Gold

Scientists believe that our sense of smell is strongly tied to our memory. If you've ever walked past a guy wearing JOOP! and had a sobering flashback to a purposely forgotten high school hook-up, you know this.

And just as your eighth-period crush has since expanded his fragrance roster, so have you, most likely. You probably have at least a few perfumes that you associate with certain times in your life, and smelling any of the above will likely trigger tons of (hopefully positive!) memories. Let's reminisce. Here's a look back at my signature scents at every stage of life—I can't wait to hear yours.

Middle School: Love's Baby Soft
I was strongly influenced by an ad in a teen magazine in which The Hot Guy in a fictional high school proclaims how much he loves his girlfriend's Love's Baby Soft perfume. This smell takes me back to the awkwardness of those early dates that your mom had to drive you to. [Smells like: baby powder]

High School: L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons
What 16-year-old spends $100 on perfume? This kid right here. I went shopping armed with birthday money and blew it all on this fragrance because it was so pretty. And pink. And French. In my defense, I still have that same bottle to this day, which is somehow not empty yet and still smells fresh as the day I bought it. Every time I wear it, I flash back to being 16, which is a precious gift for anyone who's hit the big 3-0. [Smells like: pink flowers]

College: Aquolina Pink Sugar
This was probably when my interest in sugary smells began. I sampled this at my local Sephora and then wore it religiously in college. It takes me back to all the fun times in college—and reminds me of a certain roomie who was known to steal a spritz whenever I'd leave the room (you know who you are). [Smells like: sugar + pink pepper]

Post-College: Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot
What club soda is to mixed drinks, this perfume is to my collection. It goes well with everything, so I alternated wearing it alone and wearing it mixed with other stuff I loved to sweeten it up. This one makes me think of all the nights out I had when I first moved into NYC. [Smells like: candied apricots]

Current Favorite: Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb
There's a reason this perfume is a best-seller. It's the perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and every guy I know seems to love it. It also smells like a more "grown-up" version of other scents I've worn before. [Smells like: spicy vanilla]

The Perfume Sisters With Opposing Skin-Care Routines

Anne Serrano McClain (left) and Katie McClain are the sisters behind Brooklyn-based perfume company, MCMC Fragrances. Anne is the scent designer while Katie handles the business side of things, and together they hand-bottle every perfume. With normal skin types and a spray of freckles across their nose (thanks to their part-Irish heritage), Anne prefers a pared-down, simple routine with fragrance-free products — unlike her nostrils, her skin is sensitive to scented ingredients — while Katie opts for multiple department store products and an alternating nighttime cleansing routine. Despite their differences, they're both adamant about sunscreen usage, so click below to compare their routines.

Anne Serrano McClain:

Cleanser
I always use something that doesn’t foam, because I find the foam dries out my face. So right now I’m using 365 Daily Facial Cleanser from Whole Foods. It’s just a gentle skin cleanser that’s fragrance-free. I'll use that in the morning and at night.

Toner
I always use a Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner after I wash my face, morning and night. The one thing I do have is a ton a freckles and I’m prone to sun spots. My sister was the one who recommended this toner, because it helps with the dark spots. I use that morning and night.

Now, undies that emit perfume when wearer sweats

New York, July 5 (ANI): A French company has debuted a new range of underwear, which emits a "musk and pear" scent when their wearer starts sweating.

French underwear maker Le Slip Francais' fragrant underwears dubbed 'The Indomitable,' come in boxers and briefs, and are being sold for 51 and 45 dollars per pair.

The company said that perfume micro-capsules have been embedded into the cotton fabric, and give sweat-activated scent for up to 30 washes, the New York Daily News reported.

Guillaume Gibault, the visionary behind the scented underwear, said that the perfume is quiet masculine, which is not very strong, and is based on musk and pears.

Gibaul also said that if the venture turned out to be a success the company will expand the clothing line to t-shirts and bathing suits.

“It's quite a masculine perfume, not very strong, based on musk and pears,” Guillaume Gibault, the visionary behind the scented underwear told the AFP.
