Woman uses perfume to escape from accused attacker

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police say a woman who was attacked by a man with a box cutter on Tuesday in Davidson County was able to escape.

The victim says the suspect approached her using racial slurs and hit her with a stick.

Before she knew it, she says she was face-to-face with a box cutter, and the man was threatening to cut her.

The victim then pulled a perfume bottle from her purse and sprayed the man in the eyes.

The man, later identified as Billy McCormick, was found and arrested on an aggravated assault charge.

McCormick has an extensive criminal history dating back to the mid-1980s, including robberies and burglaries. Police say his assault convictions were for prior stabbings.
