Fragrances matched to your circadian rhythm to guide you through your day.

The Scent Rhythm Watch by Aisen Caro Chacin could mean that you never have to look at your watch again when you want to tell the time. Instead of being aware of every second that passes, Chacin’s watch changes the way you perceive time by releasing a specific scent for different phases throughout the day.

Scent Rhythm maps fragrances in sequence with the body’s circadian cycle, which means each one corresponds to a specific state of being; which include waking up, being active, relaxing, and sleeping.

Nigel Barker Launching His Own Perfume, Because Sure (PHOTOS)

We mourned the day when Tyra Banks rocked the boat that is "America's Next Top Model" and gave judge Nigel Barker the boot. What would we do with the smooth-talking, smooth-headed noted fashion photographer in our lives?

Thankfully, Barker heard our pleas and is sticking around... with a fragrance. Women's Wear Daily reports that the photographer has partnered with Demeter Fragrance Library to launch the Nigel Barker Signature Collection of Fine Scents, which will include three different perfumes.

The fragrances are all New York-themed: New York Nights, Times Square and Wall Street. "People come to New York and want to capture that moment in time," Barker told WWD of his urban inspiration. "I tried to recreate that feeling in the scent." (Hopefully he didn't literally try to bottle real New York smells.)

We'll admit that a Barker-branded fragrance sounds out of left field, but WWD notes that Barker's wife Cristen is actually a makeup artist. The couple will also be launching two cosmetics collections along with the fragrance, all of which will drop in 2014.

But a celebrity fragrance from a photographer is still a bit... random. Tyra Banks might have her own perfume, but we never really expected the "Top Model" judges to get into the scent game.

Will you buy it? Read more at WWD.com.

Bread perfume “Eau de Toast” is making us hungry

I love it when you get crumbs in the sheets.
Mmm, fresh bread. If only we all smelled that good. Well, if you attended London Fashion Week, YOU CAN:

For London Fashion Week, the Federation of Bakers offered a limited edition scent called Eau de Toast “to challenge the fashion for bread-free diets” and “to remind women who skip breakfast just what they’re missing out on.” Sample bottles of perfume were offered online but have now sold out.

Bottle of chemicals with breakfast?
Bread perfume! Let’s brainstorm the perfect slogan, shall we?

Bread perfume. Because your lady with a bun in the oven should smell like one too.
Bread perfume. Because yeast gets a bad rap. (WAIT, nix this one, that is awful.)
Bread perfume. Because there’s nothing wrong with being a little doughy.
Bread perfume. GET BAKED.
Knead a new scent? Try BREAD PERFUME.

A less punny but more accurate tagline might be “Full of toxic ingredients nobody has to disclose!” Or maybe “Way worse for you than actual bread!” But where’s the fun in those?

'Toast Scented' Perfume Is Only Mildly Weird Compared to These 5 Other Scents

1. Beef Jerky Companies

It's delicious and an excellent source of protein. Sadly most of us avoid it because we are not 18-year-old boys on a road-trip. But a sexy spritz of beefy musky? Meow. Jerky -- it's what's for dinner.

2. Popcorn Companies

I love microwave popcorn so much that the idea of ripping apart the bag to dab my pressure points with the butter doesn't seem that much of a stretch. Though granted, spraying on the aroma would probably be much more pleasant.

3. Bagel Companies

Worth it for the design of the bottle alone. If I could start each day smelling like an everything bagel, I would be happy and everyone would want to sit next to me in meetings.

4. Cupcake Companies

There's a lot of perfume that tries to smell like dessert. Most of it falls short of the mark, tending to be sickly sweet and cloying. What I wouldn't give to sniff the bottled honest-to-god smell of a warm, vanilla cake -- buttery bliss!

5. Waffle Companies

Nothing says couture like waffles ... which don't say it at all. It's a pity too, because I've always thought that Anna Wintour probably smelled like toasted vanilla and maple syrup.

Sense of a woman, A Personal Memory Through Perfume

A rather gruff, pragmatic friend of mine surprised me recently when he mentioned that when he was a child, his mother died of cancer and he subsequently began to follow women around supermarkets who smelt like his mum.

"My older brothers would yell at me 'Where the f--- you going?' as I wandered off down an aisle and I'd say 'she's wearing mum's perfume!'"

I'll pause here a second to let your heart break, like mine did. In fact, next time I see this guy I'll give him a hug on behalf of all of us because, despite his surliness, relentless political incorrectness and partiality to bar fights, you can still see that little boy in his eyes when he smiles.

We'd been chatting about whale vomit and how it was sought-after by perfumers to make fragrances and every guy at the table was able to name a distant teenage love and the usually atrocious, cheap scent she used.

White Diamonds by Elizabeth Arden. 4711. Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent.

"It doesn't matter where or when I smell it, who's wearing it, I think of my ex and my throat closes up and I'm in love again for about three seconds," said one gentleman.

Now I'm a grown-up, I find the whole concept of perfume kind of ridiculous, particularly the implied notion women need to daub themselves with a fragrance to "smell nice". It echoes the same cheerful hostility as make-up and high heels, which we chatted about on this blog six years ago.

Pierre Loti, the Exotic Dandy Has His Perfume Loti Rose d'Amour 1913 Recreated for a Time {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses}

An exhibition consecrated to French writer Pierre Loti (1850-1923) at Quai Branly entitled "J'Arrive, J'Aime, Je M'en Vais"* is the opportunity for the recreation of a long lost fragrance called Loti Rose d'Amour, 1913** - the name of a sample really - a custom blend created at the beginning of the 20th century by a Parisian perfumer for the author of Pêcheur d'Islande, Aziyadé and The Last Days of Peking...

Pierre Loti is well-known for his writing but also for his eccentric streak, in particular his love of exoticism, developed during his career as a navy officer, which made him decorate each room in his Rochefort home in a different "world" style as one might put it today, and likewise wear costumes hailing from varied cultures. His nom de plume "Loti" is a nickname bestowed upon him in Polynesia, meaning "red flower".

Artist and nose Laurent-David Garnier happened on a perfume jewel containing the tenuous resinous remnants of a perfume concreta and decided to recreate it by analyzing it but also studying the environment of Loti. One of the writer's habits was to collect botanicals and mummify things like birds with arsenic salts and aromatic herbs, as he was obsessed with the idea of death.

The result, which is partly interpretative and partly based on the materials present in the tiny flacon of origin, is a perfume wafting of Damascean rose, lilac, mint and violet, which one can smell when paying a visit to the exhibition in the darkness of an alcova protected by black velvet curtains.

This will not be the first time that the memory and the universe of the author are honored by perfumers as both Parfum d'Empire and Lubin have each proposed a composition inspired by Aziyadé, the novel by Loti set in Ottoman Turkey.

A summer solstice underground perfume pop-up

Perfume really speaks to my inner witch, so on this sunny summer solstice Saturday, I'm headed to FRAGments, a pop-up organized by an underground perfume collective that taking over MorYork Gallery in Highland Park for a day of panels, talks and spritzing.

Much like artisanal baking, cheese-making and vinoculture, the indie perfume movement seeks a return to perfume's roots. The idea is to offer small batch, well-crafted fragrances that provide an alternative to the mass-market, highly chemical perfumes made by giant conglomerates that line the counters of your local mall.

And LA is a hub of this scented world.

When I first fell down the rabbit hole of perfume obsession, I sought out the newest, most esoteric brands at Scent Bar on Beverly Boulevard, the temple of indie niche perfumery. Then I haunted estate sales and antique swap meets hunting down vintage Carons, Guerlains and Chanel perfumes.

Eventually, I stumbled across the vibrant West Coast perfume scene. Its dozens of practitioners include botanical perfumers like Roxana Villa who distills in the oak-tree shade of her Agoura Hills cottage; Ayala Moriel, whose inspirations derive from the pine forests, windswept coasts and lush foliage of Vancouver and Yosh Han of San Francisco, a former florist whose intoxicating olfactory holograms conjure up tea rose gardens at dawn.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Desire Perfume Is Bombshell Fabulous!

When we first saw Scarlett Johansson’s new Dolce & Gabbana Desire perfume campaign with Terry Richardson, we were absolutely breathless. So when we had an opportunity to try the fashion house’s latest perfume we jumped.

Taking a more floral turn to the popular The One collection, Desire blends intoxicating notes of mandarin, lychee and bergamot all to create one feminine, yet mysterious, scent. We love spritzing it on before a long day at the office or before a romantic evening out. Yes folks, it’s really that versatile.

And we can’t forget to mention the beautiful bottle, which is often it’s own even with most fragrances these days. Inspired by Sicily’s baroque period, the black and gold contrast on the bottle screams sumptuous elegance.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Desire perfume retails from $79-$112 and is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and other select department and specialty stores.

Bespoke Perfume You Mix Like A Cocktail

It’s impossible to test and review every single beauty product on the market, so that’s why we’re just highlighting the good stuff. You know, those lotions and potions with which we’re currently obsessed, and the beauty counter buys we believe everyone should know about. Today’s pick is a perfume literally catered to your personality.

I’m not a big perfume person, mostly because I think most of them smell the same, but I came across a great find while visiting friends in Los Angeles — Bath Bar. The store was created by makeup artist Kristina Vogel, and stocks all sorts of — what else? — soaps, scrubs, lotions, and lots more.
My absolute favorite is the customized perfume. I spent a good half hour in the store’s mixology lab testing and mixing little vials of essential oils and fragrances for a seriously one-of-a-kind scent. The finished product came in a convenient roll-on tube that was perfectly sized for my plane ride back to New York City, and I still reach for it months after my trip.

The 10 best shops in the world: #1 Penhaligon’s English Perfume House

Forget the high street doom and gloom and come with us on a journey around the 10 best stores in the world. In this new series, Georgia Barretta-Whiteley, head of design at Saatchi & Saatchi X, introduces us to 10 awe-inspiring stores that are redefining the shopper experience.

Penhaligon’s English Perfume House, London

As if anything dreamt up in the 1860s after inhaling the steamy, sulphurous aromas of a neighbouring Turkish baths was going to be anything other than a jovial affront to the constrained moral values of Victorian England.

Lo-fi, high-experience and even higher-tech manufacturing make Penhaligon’s English Perfume House a kaleidoscopic piece of ‘sensation design’ ... ahh, the sweet smell of 153 years of just getting it right.

All this amidst the needy bun-fight for a shopper's attention down there on Regent’, Penhaligon’s is at once a highly functional space in a high-traffic environment and, well, a transformative Alice's Wonderland - unlocking memories and opening doors.

Jasmine: Feel the fragrance

Every person likes jasmines. The fragrance of the flowers brings divinity, be it in a church, mosque or a temple. Few people, however, know the life cycle or journey of the flower from the time it is ‘literally’ nipped in the bud on the farmland to its end use.

Krishna district is home to more than 5,000 acres of jasmine crop and exports majority of it to Hyderabad, West Godavari and East Godavari.

Fields in Mylavaram mandal present a picture of the beauty of this queen of flowers.

Just before dawn, farmers of Pulluru and Chandapadu land in their jasmine fields directing women engaged to pluck buds of the right size. It is an art to pluck the right bud.

Women pluck 10 kg per day (from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.) with a single bush giving between 250 grams and 450 grams.

By 9 a.m. the Pulluru Jasmine Flower Marketyard, run by Sri Veeranjaneya Rythula Sahakara Sangham, buzzes with activity with farmers bringing jasmine buds to get them weighed on an electronic scale and pouring them into a heap on the floor.

Suresh, director of an NGO Nestam, who brought these farmers together as an initiative of Nabard, feels happy that farmers are able to earn good profits.

Here Comes The Whale Sperm, The Perfume Is Elated

Supply shortage, price inflation and the the fact that sperm wholes are an endangered species had lead European perfume formulators to develop alternative to Ambergris.

But a while washed ashore just off the Texel back in December and was dissected by Ecomare, a group that looks after the conversation and restoration in the North See, uncovered the uncommonly large amount of Ambergris in the mammal's intestines.

Those chunks excreted by the intestinal tract of the while are extremely rare and are tremendous value for the perfume industry. This is a 30 ton adult male who died at sea and washed ashore. About 83 kilograms of ambergris.

Prince Settles Out Of Court With Perfume Maker

Prince and Vivendi SA have settled a lawsuit filed by a perfume and cosmetics manufacturer who accused the musician and his then-label (Universal Music Group) of breaching a contract to promote two products.

According to Bloomberg, Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics, a company based in Pennsylvania, sued the musician and UMG in New York State Supreme Court in November 2008, seeking minimum $100,000 in damages.

The suit claimed Prince didn't follow through on contracts to help market perfumes using his name, likeness and the name of his 2006 album 3121. A judge subsequently ordered the musician to pay nearly $4 million in April 2012 to the company for losses, but denying the company punitive and lost-profit damages.

The Hollywood Reporter stated problems arose immediately after the deal was signed, with Prince refusing to do any promotional work or interviews related to the product. The musician argued that one day after the licensing deal was signed between Revelations and Universal Music he told the perfume company he wouldn't give interviews for the launch party nor provide photographs to accompany the press release.

Court filings dated on March 27 said both sides had agreed to withdraw the suit and its appeal. The company's lawyer told Bloomberg the case had been settled but refused to reveal the terms.

Prince is mounting a West Coast trek that begins in Vancouver on April 15 before concluding in Denver on May 13. From there he'll head to Europe, playing at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in July with dates in Sweden and Denmark slated for August.

Shakira in Paris for Launch of S At Sephora Champs Elysees

Shakira rocks head-to-toe black as she arrives to her S by Shakira perfume launch held at Sephora Champs-Elysees on Wednesday (March 27) in Paris, France.

“Paris’s Champs-Élysées is looking pretty busy. for the S by Shakira fragrance launch at @Sephora!” the 36-year-old entertainer’s Twitter account read before the launch. “The first signature! #SbyShakira #Paris”

Behind her on the picture you can see the original Shakira S (2010) on your left and its flanker, Shakira S Eau Florale (2011) on your right. The event is part of a delayed international roll-out as S debuted in the United States three years ago.

The fact that the reason for this mega PR campaign is belated news if you consider your source to be the internet, did not prevent crowds from assembling on the Champs-Elysées to welcome the star as she stepped into the flagship Sephora store where the two scents are now exclusively available.

In the United-States, her latest perfume is actually S by Shakira Aquamarine this year preceded last year by Elixir.

Earlier in the day, Shakira waved as she headed inside Le Bourget Airport after flying in for the launch.

Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday" Arrives In The UK

Nicki Minaj will be headed to the UK to launch her Pink Friday fragrance at Selfridges in London later this month, as well as unveiling a series of limited edition "costume" covers for the perfume. American rapper of eccentric style Nicki Minaj launches her first fragrance called Pink Friday, which is also the name of her first studio album from 2010, in collaboration with the Elizabeth Arden company. The fragrance is out from September 2012.

The 'Starships' singer has revealed three different limited edition outfit covers that fans will be able to dress up their Pink Friday bottles with, as part of her first foray into the world of celebrity fragrances.

"UK Barbz, it's official! My Pink Friday fragrance launches @Selfridges on March 14th!" Nicki tweeted yesterday (4th March). "I have something special 4U! Get ready #COUTUREBYMINAJ."

The 'Beez In The Trap' rapper then went on to separately reveal three unique costume covers, each of which will be available for a small amount of lucky fans who attend the Selfridges launch in mid March.

The first fragrance bottle outfit is called the Duchess Of Pink, and is described as the "master of sassy sweetness", with Nicki confirming fans can get their hands on the outfit if they are one of the first 100 to buy the fragrance at Selfridges later this month.

Check out a picture of Nicki Minaj's 'Duchess Of Pink' fragrance cover below (Credit: Twitter):
The 'Starships' special cover features an outfit straight from the music video for the US star's huge hit single, while the final bottle outfit to be confirmed is called Whip It Like Minaj, which is "all about the woman in charge who gets what she wants".

Most reviews for this perfume have been negative, however some tried to be a bit more fair. Smells like Gucci Glamorous Gardenia! I have both, Pink Friday actually lasts longer. People need to get over the fact that they don't like the bottle or her, the perfume smells nice and its inexpensive. I love it, don't love the bottle but the fragrance is clean, sweet and floral.
