21 Uses Of Fragrance Oils

Just as there are countless number of perfumes and colognes, there are as many fragrance/scented oils. From the designer Chanel No.5 to Armani Code, to all sorts of DKNY fragrances among others which are a mixture of several fragrances, to the single regular everyday scents like Jasmine, Vanilla, Lavender, Baby Powder, Honey suckle, Lemon, Orange, Rose etc there are myriad scents all over.

But what to do with all these oils? There are quite a number of uses:

5. Use some on your skin as perfume.

6. Add a drop on your cold light bulb to scent a room.

7. Add a few drops of lavender oil in your bath water for a fresh just showered smell.

8. Add some to a gift package bow, to give the gift an extra personal touch.

Justin Bieber Made An Insane Short Film To Sell Perfume Or Something

Per Jezbell

The message here, in this most Herzogian of The Bieber Works thus far, is that Justin has a key. It is a key to your room that Justin will use when you are sleeping and that is not creepy at all. It is also a metaphoric key to your heart. Your heart is also a bottle of shitty perfume you can buy at Macy's for $60. Wait—SIXTY FUCKING DOLLARS? Are you high, Macy's? $60. Sixty actual dollars. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ's toenails, Macy's.

If you still can get enough Bieber from this 3:35 minute video, don't forget, you can also watch the trailer for his new film "Believe," which hits theaters Dec. 25. Again, the title of that film is "Believe," shortened from the original title "Believe You Can Sell Crappy Perfume To Teenage Girls At Any Price You Want."

Illamasqua Launches New Freak Scarab Unisex Fragrance

It Enchants. It Captivates. It Corrupts.

Meet the decadent new fragrance that's designed to go unisex. Introducing Freak Scarab by Illamasqua.

We just highlighted this fragrance's original predecessor in our Goth Goddess Halloween Makeup look yesterday.

The original Freak fragrance created by this British beauty brand debuted in 2011. The unisex juice was made to celebrate the night, derived from an unusual blend of dark flowers. The brand followed their success up a year later with a limited edition version strictly for women dubbed Freak Extrait de Parfum (since discontinued). Wickedly dark florals comprised this scent as well, and now the brand is ready to add to their fragrance house with a scent that is said to call for "the age of indulgence to be reborn."

Freak Scarab is definitely a name you'll remember. Wondering what a scarab is? Think of the movie, The Mummy, and the ancient beetles that came to life amid the epic pyramid action scenes. Coincidentally enough, two new species of scarab were discovered only this week. Pretty freaky huh?

Now for the story behind the brands latest scent.  It is said the ancient Egyptians believed that the scarab beetle was the embodiment of the sun. While the snake god fought the sun god every night, it was the scarab - self-creating and self-reforming - that ensured the sun rose again every morning.

Top notes for this new fragrance include Blood Orange, Neroli Absolute and Ylang Ylang to awaken and entice the senses. The mid notes of the juice consist of Davana Oil entwined with Egyptian Jasmine, Honeysuckle and Queen of the Night to form a sensual heart. The base includes the warmth of Stewed Plum, which creates a distant depth, leading to the rich ancient accord of Mousse de Sax - Geranium, Anise, Moss and Leather. Can the description get any sexier?

The all black packaging is super chic, but the gold encrusted snake cradling the fragrance takes this scent to a whole new level. The bottle also includes a golden scarab that can be seen crawling up the side of the slanted bottle.

The 75ml fragrance is available online for purchase at Illamasqua.  you'll be planning to add this freaky little edition to your collection.

A Cleansing Oil That Could Be a Great Perfume

All cleansing oils require a two-step process. First, you slather the transparent liquid all over your dry face, then you wet your hands and wash the stuff off, taking care to spend extra time gently rubbing the eye area to remove stubborn makeup. However, the beauty of an oil-based formula is that it breaks down grease and dirt, so there's no need to reach for your makeup remover prior to cleansing. Dior's new Instant Gentle Cleansing Oil does all of the above, plus it smells positively divine, owing to the lily extract inside.

But don't worry: This cleanser is not overly perfumed. It smells like a freshly laundered sheet that was left out to air in an open meadow (not that I've ever done this, but the idea is nice). The scent lasts for a fleeting moment and then vanishes with water. Honestly, if Dior decided to turn this delicate lily fragrance into an actual perfume oil for purchase, I'd buy vats of it.

Lush Limited Edition Perfume

Like any in-demand limited edition commodity—rockstars, exhibitions, Warby Parker—the newly launched Lush Gorilla Perfumes fragrance collection is on tour this year.

The set of nine distinct and quite unusual unisex scents are living at the Newbury Street store through July 5, ready to be explored, dabbed, and sniffed. No frilly scents here—the fragrances are complex and often heavily touched by nature (musky vegetation, natural herbs and spices) and inspired by cultural icons ranging from beatniks to obscure British plants and even the New Jersey turnpike (oh yeah).

The collection was designed by in-house father-son team Mark and Simon Constantine at a Poole, England studio filled with essential oil-lined shelves. Called gorilla as a play on the term "guerilla marketing," the duo felt that like the animal, these scents would "sneak up on you." With names like Hellstone, Load of Goathorn, Flower's Barrow, and Devil's Nightcap (cartoons of inspirational vignettes to match) the variety is essentially British. All the packaging artwork was created by Chicago-based creative Plastic Crimewave, with associated prints, pins, and totes available for purchase alongside the perfumes.

BACK BAY—Lush released a limited edition unisex fragrance collection, available in store only through July 5 and featuring amazing names like like Hellstone, Load of Goathorn, Flower's Barrow, and Devil's Nightcap.

NORTH END—While the North End is known first and foremost for its solid Italian eats, the winding set of streets is also home to some welcoming boutique shopping—though you'll probably want to try on skinny jeans before consuming the cannoli.

SALISBURY—Head to Pettengill Farm in Salisbury this weekend for the epic Vintage Bazaar festival, featuring 135 vendors, live music, and gourmet food—all on a gorgeous flower farm.

TBD—National leading blow dry bar Drybar announces it will be opening a Boston location sometime this year. Is the local market getting too crowded or will the salon trend stick?

A Perfume Line For People Who Don't Like Perfume

As much as we love a great fragrance, we get that not every woman is head over heels for perfume. To some, they view traditional scents as overpowering, cloying, artificial, and offensive to the nose. Enter: natural perfumes.

Since they're made with natural oils, these scents tend to be less overwhelming than their chemically enhanced counterparts. We've recently fallen in love with this new Brooklyn-based brand, Forager Botanicals. Created by graphic designer Casey Coyle, the line features four all-natural scents that delicately perfume the skin without assaulting your nose and the olfactive senses of everyone within a five-mile radius of you.

In addition to smelling lovely, each of the fragrances comes housed in an artisanal bottle that features a birchwood cap and watercolor illustration on the label that was drawn by Coyle herself. The scent line-up includes Bloom, a floral scent with notes of spring blossom and green twig; Island Lei, inspired by island living with notes of tropical night-blooming flowers, vanilla, and sandalwood; Nectar, a sweet scent derived from fruits and honey; and Woodland, a unisex scent with cedarwood, high Alps lavender, and herbs.

Even if you don't have a problem with department-store perfumes, we think these au naturel fragrances are a great pick for summertime scenting. Because who wants to wear a super-heavy scent when it's already stifling out?
