Daphne (Alabama) Police Searching for "Perfume Bandit"

DAPHNE, Ala. (WPMI) Nearly $4,000 in perfume was stolen and Daphne Police hope you can help catch the woman accused in the crime.

Surveillance video from the Walmart in Daphne back in April shows a woman taking perfume.

The woman apparently has not hit any other stores yet so police are having a hard time finding the "Perfume Bandit." They've been checking Craigslist and ebay for clues.

Police say the entire crime took 15 minutes at most during a busy lunch hour at the Walmart.

"She literally walks down the isle and then walks out the garden center," said Daphne Police Lt. Judd Beedy.

What the woman in question doesn't realize or doesn't care about is that all isles at every Walmart are now monitored by digital surveillance cameras.

"If she's local hopefully somebody will recognize her," said Beedy. "Unfortunately some of these people that's what they do for a living. They travel the country and like gypsies and steal this stuff and make a couple thousand dollars."

Police say sometimes stolen items may be sold online or at the flea market. The bottles of perfume range from $20 to $75 a bottle at retail. Police say they have worked other similar cases involving stolen makeup and whitening strips.
