Frédéric Malle, The Most Interesting Man In The Perfume Business

After his French education finished, and moving to New York cit for a degree in Art History  the young Frenchman worked in advertising. In 1988 Paris Frédéric Malle professionally joined the world of perfumery at the the most prestigious perfume laboratory at the time.

Years later Frédéric Malle develops his knowledge of raw materials, perfume making techniques, and ultimately learns the rigor of perfume creation from its finest creators. After years of working as a consultant to some of the best French and International perfume companies Frédéric Malle decides make his debut career.

As in 2000 came his “Editions de Parfums” which can be translated from the French as “Perfume Publishing House” and that was exactly the arrangement Frédéric Malle had in mind. Just as a literary publisher provides an opportunity and infrastructure to enable his authors to write, Malle wanted to offer his perfumers full freedom to express themselves. With unlimited support, complete creative freedom and abundant resources, the creations have come to shape the perfume industry.

The only place to buy his fragrance is Barneys New York and Frederic’s own store, you can also find his perfumes only at Dries Van Noten. He might be seen as a snob, but what if he is? As he told the New York Times “I need to work with people I like,” Frederic said. That’s a rare luxury. I adore how he does not chase after celebrities and their endorsements. Instead, if you make a good product, people will reach out to you.

He has a successful venture and an opinion respected by the industry watchers. He is in the business of exclusive scents  not pleasing the masses. He has all the right connections to make unique blends and something that comes with bragging rights.

Per Wikipedia, among his perfumes are
