The Mentalist's "Simon Baker" Signs With Givenchy For Fragrance Deal

The Mentalist, one of those shows that's always on when you're at the gym and therefore you feel like you've quasi-watched, has spawned the latest Givenchy face: Australian actor Simon Baker, who fronts the label's new scent, Gentlemen Only. Being a gentleman is the role of a lifetime, literally, for Simon Baker. WE know much about the celebrity and his many roles but little is known about the new fragrance itself.

But we'd prefer to think of him as someone who reads minds and smiles with one eye squinted a little more than the other. Come April, we'll get to see a whole lot more of him (in billboard form, at least) when Givenchy launches its first new men's fragrance in over four years, WWD reports. Apparently the ad shows him soaking wet in a rainstorm, giving his umbrella to a lady. Approvals all around. Thierry Maman, global president of Givenchy, had this to say
“Simon was a natural choice for us — he has aristocratic elegance and charisma. These are all values which have been linked with the brand since Hubert de Givenchy.”
Given recent traumatic events over at Chanel, we have some trepidation about seeing a male actor with no erstwhile beauty industry experience thrust into a perfume commercial. In a worst case scenario, Baker's Givenchy ads could be mocked on both "Conan" and "Saturday Night Live." Which would increase the brand awareness.
