Zegna channels its heritage to create Essenze fragrance quintet

Aramis and Designer Fragrances is set to introduce the upscale Essenze by Ermenegildo Zegna men's fragrance collection to the travel retail channel. It will be available in Dubai International Airport and New York JFK International Airport from April. More locations will be added globally throughout 2013.

Inspired by The Ermenegildo Zegna Couture Collection, Essenze by Ermenegildo Zegna comprises five scents, each of which is composed around one signature raw material with its own unique provenance. In addition, a special Italian bergamot, known as Zegna Bergamot (from Calabria), features within the juice of all five fragrances.

The house of Ermenegildo Zegna has sourced the bergamot crop from a single field planted and harvested for the sole purpose of creating Essenze. This echoes the way the brand guarantees the quality of its wool, by owning its own sheep farms. The Zegna bergamot is also a component within the brand’s new Uomo fragrance, which is being launched this spring.

The Essenze by Ermenegildo Zegna fragrances were composed by Pierre Negrin, Frank Voelkl, Harry Fremont and Jacques Cavallier. Italian Bergamot is the lead scent in the collection. Its key ingredients include bergamot oil, neroli, rosemary and vetiver.

As its name suggests, Sicilian Mandarin features mandarin, Zegna bergamot, spearmint, petitgrain and moss. “Mandarin is the most complex citrus with an almost juicy floralcy,” noted Fremont. “I wanted to showcase the natural mandarin and counterbalance it with modern musks and captive molecules.”

Javanese Patchouli includes notes of bergamot, pink pepper, Tonka bean and cedar wood, while Indonesian Oud is crafted around oud wood, amber, rose and patchouli. Lastly, Florentine Iris blends three iris varieties, complemented by bergamot, jasmine, violet and musk.

Each fragrance is presented in a contemporary glass bottle, adorned with a custom fabric label complete with corresponding coloured border which reflects the key notes within each scent.
